ABOUT THE DESIGNER:

KARIM RASHID is a leading figure in the fields of product, furniture and interior design and is largely credited for bringing exceptional, affordable design to the masses via iconic products like the Oh Chair and Garbo Trashcan. His perspective and clients are global and he considers himself a cultural shaper doing projects ranging from products, interiors, fashion, furniture, lighting, to art and music. His clients include Umbra, Nambe, Magis, Prada, Mikasa, Target, Issey Miyake, Copco and Alessi, among others. He designed the Morimoto restaurant in Philadelphia , Semiramis hotel in Athens and Nooch in NYC.

Presently he is working in 23 countries. He has won numerous awards and his work is in the permanent collection of 14 Museums including MoMA and SFMoMA . In 2006 Karim received Honorary Doctorates from the Ontario College of Art and Design and Corcoran College . He exhibits art at Sandra Gering and Deitch Projects in New York .

Karim has just published his guide to living "Design Your Self’ from Regan Books, ‘Digipop’ a digital exploration of computer graphics (Taschen 2005), a portfolio book published by Chronicle books (2004), as well two monographs titled ‘Evolution’ (Universe, 2004) and ‘I Want to Change the World’(Rizzoli, 2001). He edited the International Design Yearbook 18 for Calmann and King 2003 and released two CD’s available on Seattle boutique label, Neverstop.
